A Strong Iron Range economy rests on mining. The Iron Range can lead the transition into a clean energy future while simultaneously boosting its economy by responsibly mining metals. We must promote our small businesses, develop our workforce, and diversify our economic base. Strong Iron Range Families means the freedom to access reproductive healthcare, investing in public education, and ensuring that teachers are paid the wages they deserve. It means protecting our seniors, providing affordable daycare, and safe healthcare. Strong Iron Range Communities means protecting local government aid, investing in infrastructure, broadband, and affordable housing for all. It means the freedom to enjoy the outdoors and our recreational lifestyle.
A strong Minnesota economy relies on public education and workforce development. We must invest in educational and vocational training to improve the job prospects of youth, and adult job seekers. We must support small and mid-size businesses and provide them with incentive and support to start and grow as they aid job creation and innovation. And, we must invest in infrastructure and provide resources communities need to create business and residential development.
We must allocate resources and funding equitably so all students receive a quality education; increase outreach for workforce development and housing; and expand access to healthcare services. Like so many issues, disparities for people of color, in housing, education, and workforce, are complex. With decades of experience creating services for social and economically disadvantaged community members I know we need to involve the voices of BIPOC and low-income communities in designing solutions.
Minnesota can help the fight against climate change by leading the world in the responsible production of nonferrous mining that protects our environment and communities and positions us as clean energy leaders. I also support electronic waste recycling. I support efforts to introduce resilient tree species, wildfire prevention strategies and enhanced lake monitoring. We will need to use biomass to supplement clean energy production and manage that in an environmentally responsible way.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.

VOTE411 is brought to you by the League of Women Voters Education Fund and League of Women Voters of Minnesota Education Fund. The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for office.
