Dilworth City Council Member {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

As local legislators who sometimes have executive power, council members can propose ordinances, set administrative policy, and authorize the budget proposed by the mayor. They oversee all city activities, including city services, programs, licensing, and public safety. Mayoral appointments to city government typically require council approval.Voting in local elections is important - learn more here: Why Vote for City Council

Our Elected Officials have lost touch with the wants and needs of the residents of Dilworth. In just the last year, being on the Planning and Zoning Comission, I have seen the input of the general public routinely placed last. From the creation of the MU-1 District (Which I voted against) to other planned activities on the long-term city plans which readily support business interests but place resident interests somewhere else. Growth is necessary for a healthy community, but not at resident expense. I maintain informal contacts at various government levels which allows me to keep the pulse of what is upcoming. I talk to people of all walks of life which government officials -at all levels- lack. I intend to maintain open dialogue.
Resident Engagement. All about the people living here. Housing. Cultivating open communication for all stakeholders for affordable, quality housing that people Want to live in, not Need to live in. Open, honest government. The hardest ideal to obtain. I naturally dispise liars, cheats, and shady backroom deals. I can provide references if necessary.
By talking to them of course. Most every disagreement can be solved through dialogue. Compromise- a term rarely heard of in politics lately- tends towards maybe not ideal solutions for either side, but something everyone can live with.
I have already begun. The April 2024 Planning and Zoning meeting was held up for 10 minutes while I inquired as to why a heated citizen interaction was left off the previous meeting minutes. While my motion died, I voted NO on approving the previous meeting minutes. I have no problem being the lone NO vote and equally have no problems questioning things. I also self-audit the city's financial records annually.

As a current councilmember, I am invested in continuing to work to support the community in work being done in our new growth areas as well as our core neighborhoods. I am actively involved in multiple community organizations and activities that provide a unique opportunity to hear directly about needs in our community. I have a broad background in fiscal and personnel management that grounds me in making financial decisions for the city. I pride myself in making decisions that are in the best interest for our entire community and our employees. I value the diverse interests and ideas brought to the council for expansion of services and new opportunities for growth.
One priority is balancing growth with available infrastructure and also reinvesting in our core neighborhoods. We need to be flexible in our planning and zoning to work with changing needs while also making sure we utilize the same for assessing fit. A second priority is supporting housing and business growth through policy, advocacy and incentives. A third priority is support for community amenities including a community center and park initiatives.
I am involved in several community organizations and activities that provide a unique opportunity to hear directly about the diverse needs in our community. Through my work, I regularly interact with and learn from the diverse perspectives of people who move to this area from all over, and from those that have always lived here but may have different experiences than me. The experiences shared play a role in my decision making as a councilmember.
Transparency and accountability are crucial for fostering public trust and effective governance for our community members and employees. I am an advocate for public participation in our meetings and committees. I actively recruit diverse members of our community to apply for open positions on our committees. I support public access to our meetings and information through social media and opt-in forms of communications with the city, which also allows for feedback from our community members.
Over the last four years on the city council my voting record speaks for itself. I'm the only member on the current council that has dissenting votes in numerous circumstances. Four years ago I campaigned under the premise that Dilworth needed to reinvest in the aging infrastructure of the existing neighborhoods and we've done that. I also campaigned that I would be in favor of growing the city in a calculated manner and we've done that. As far as Dilworth's first responders go I would encourage anyone to reach out and ask if they feel the city is in a better place now than 2020 when I was first elected. I do what I say I'm going to do, simple as that.
1. Build a new and improved community center. I feel there is unfinished business with the footprint of the new fire hall ultimately being the demise of the old community center. My largest priority if reelected is to see this project through. 2. Keep maximizing Dilworth's prime commercial real estate. It's important to keep our commercial districts zones appropriately so business can thrive.3. Keeping the bedroom community feel is an absolute must. We need more single family lots to develop.
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm not hard to find. I regularly engage with citizens on a multitude of platforms. I've put my address (both email and physical) and phone number out and invited conversation on numerous occasions. I don't run from complicated issues, I embrace them and will do everything I can do get to the best solution for everyone.
Our city government and all employees at city hall do a great job of making sure issues are handled appropriately. Every single decision made by city leaders already goes through proper protocol and all decisions are part of public record to be referenced when needed. I will absolutely fight to keep that as the standard operating procedure as a city leader and tax payer.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
