Grant City Mayor

The mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. They also can preside at council meetings and appoint city workers. A mayor usually has a role in proposing a city budget which influences services provided to residents and can veto ordinances proposed by the city council.Voting in local elections is important - learn more here: Why Vote for MayorA candidate forum for this race is available at https://youtu.be/PXyCNTTBcUM. I have previously been Mayor for 14 years and currently serve on the City Council. I have also been in Grant for over 50 years and have strived to keep Grant rural and a great place to come home too.
Making sure the Cities financial status is good. Having our contractors and staff be good about communicating work done and all info flowing to the Council. Letting Council members run a meeting once in awhile to get a feel for it. I can’t do this forever.
I would bring a management style that would make the Council fully involved with how the City is run. I would also have the residents feel like their input is welcomed and encourage more participation at Council meetings. Basically establishing the open door policy to welcome communication and then discussion
I think listening to residents and making them feel they were heard is essential to running a city. Also public speaking at meetings in a respectful and appropriate manner is something that we should be more encouraging of when those opportunities come up.
We are currently involved with some grant money to put in sidewalks at the schools for safer road crossings. Also installing guardrails where needed with either State funds received, or other funds budgeted. We also are involved in dust control on our roads to make the experience of living or driving on the gravel roads better

I have served on the City Council for the past 6 years, and the Planning Commission for 2 years prior. After retiring from a 35-year career in Information Technology, where I led global projects and managed multi-million-dollar budgets, I gained the leadership skills to address Grant’s challenges. I respect diverse viewpoints, welcome community input, and work toward common goals. I have the experience, commitment, and passion to be Grant’s first “full-time” mayor, dedicated to enhancing our quality of life and protecting what makes our community special, improving roads, and strengthening the connection between the city and residents.
1. Preserve Grant's Rural Heritage: I will continue to fight to preserve our zoning standards that protect the rural character of Grant 2. Improve Our Roads: I will improve our roads while prioritizing fiscal responsibility 3. Strengthen Citizen Engagement and Increase Transparency: Transparency is key to keeping trust between leaders and residents - I will foster a more welcoming atmosphere in City Council meetings, making it easier for residents to participate and voice their concerns
I believe in transparency, accountability, and honesty. My values, priorities, and positions are available on my website, www.giefer4grant.com. I am concerned about misleading information regarding land use from my opponent, which I encourage you to verify by viewing recordings linked on my site’s "News" page. I strive to lead with energy, fairness, and positivity, and I am committed to ensuring Grant's future is built on honesty and open communication.
I enjoy meeting and working with residents. Over the last two months, I have visited more than half the homes in Grant and will continue outreach throughout my term. I encourage residents to attend budget meetings, work sessions, and council meetings to learn how the city is operating and to voice their concerns and ask questions. I will also improve our city website and use social media to enhance communication, while being available for 1:1 discussions with residents.
We prioritize public safety by employing a city engineer to regularly inspect roads, improving visibility through brushing, adding and maintaining guardrails, and ensuring infrastructure meets safety standards. I will enhance road policies to keep our roads in better shape without major budget increases. Additionally, I will work closely with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to improve road and community safety through increased patrolling
