In my three terms on the Madison city council, we have been able to accomplish several major goals, while also keeping taxes at a comfortable rate. We've built a new swimming pool, worked cooperatively with Lac qui Parle Valley School District to start Little Eagles Daycare, which now serves over 70 children and their families, we've supported public art and we recently expanded city limits and infrastructure. We as a council have been able to do many of these projects thanks to an open mind and willingness to work with other agencies and organizations. I'm the best candidate because of this experience and my approach to listening to what the community wants and needs, then trying to figure out a way to make it happen.
My top three priorities would focus on finishing major projects that are currently taking place, as well as expanding recreation and housing. Priority one would be completing the infrastructure projects, number two would be raising funds to complete rebuilding of tennis and basketball courts at Slen Park, and number three would be bringing more recreation and housing opportunities to town. An archery range would be a great addition, and new townhomes and building lots are a major need.
Listening to the public is and always will be one of my strong suits. Though I do have my own ideas for what Madison needs, that is just one of more than 1,500 voices I have to consider. Being active in organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Madison Community Foundation and others gives me first hand experience working with a variety of people, and in my career as a newspaper publisher/editor and in my time on the council, I've always had an "open door" policy and always will.
Governmental transparency and accountability are absolute musts, and as a newspaper publisher/editor, both of these are something I strongly believe in and practice. Keeping the public informed with accurate and detailed information on what is taking place with local government builds trust and faith that what elected officials are doing is in the best interest of the city and people and businesses that call it home. Our council has had a strong history of transparency, and that will continue.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
