Owatonna City Council Member At Large

As local legislators who sometimes have executive power, council members can propose ordinances, set administrative policy, and authorize the budget proposed by the mayor. Not originally being from Owatonna, I am seeing gaps in services for new entrepreneurs that could benefit the entire community. The answers that have been told to me by my fellow citizens to questions I've asked, make me believe that I can make the changes the people are asking for and do it so that everyone will benefit. In order to become a place to visit, you have to have the amenities such as a diverse downtown filled with business and events that people want to go to. I'm interested in bridging those gaps. With empty storefronts and buildings around town, I would like to work with the city to fill those buildings, and generate new income without adding taxes.
Fill empty buildings with new business to generate financial growth for both the city and business owners. Create a community makers space for people to work on projects and learn new skills in a community teaching environment. Create a community food truck farm for a place that both business startups and the community can go to without compromising or encroaching on our established brick and mortar businesses.
I plan on engaging with the all members of our community by face to face communication, expanding business workshops and mentorships and honest outreach. Every business has their own requirements and by matching those needs with the services available we can help them achieve success. Minnesotans historically have been on the forefront of entrepreneurship and Owatonna is prime for those businesses to start and flourish. It's time for Owatonna to lead in that direction.
I will never do any backdoor deals nor support any that do not have both the city's and citizens best interests in mind. I will be honest with my approaches and deal with only facts. I will never force my opinion as the truth and I will never just go along with it because that's the established practice. There are always new ideas that sometimes need to be implemented instead of keeping it because thats the way it's been done.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
