I don’t have an agenda, I believe the focus should be on the students and staff, I am not influenced by outside parties but by what is needed for the best outcome for the students in the school district.
1st, to continue the improved student achievement and test scores. 2nd, work to find budget solutions that minimize the impact on the classroom. 3rd, work to create transparency and trust within the community.
I would suggest to cut the least necessary programs- least utilized first, next would be to look at staff that do not directly work with students, I believe that teachers and paras should be the last cuts made. I do understand that we need to keep a certain level of staff to operate the schools.
We can’t allow the bigotry that has been displayed in our district to continue, any examples of this should be dealt with quickly with sever punishment to deter the practice . All students should be allowed equal access to a quality education.
Teachers are our greatest resource for so many aspects, teachers know the curriculum and best understand how to engage the students, teachers also have the largest engagement directly with students and understand how many of the policies affect the students, I would welcome listening to the ideas, suggestions and critiques from them. We also need to listen to the Families in the district to understand their needs, concerns and suggestions.

My wife and I have always been very active in our community and in our kids’ education at Saint Francis through donations of time and money with different booster clubs and PTOs. I was asked to run for School Board and was elected and served four years from 2018-22 and then being a big fan of term limits stepped aside. I’ve been asked by many to run again for this upcoming term because my track record of being accountable to student needs parental input and staff concerns is reliable and a breath of fresh air from what sadly enough political accountability has become today. Like before, if elected this term, I will answer every call text and email whether I personally agree or disagree and bring that voice of my constituency to the table.
The familiar adage of the three legged stool being the most stable comes to mind with the three legs being the District, the student, and family involvement. The District and its curriculum and employees need to be working in unison to better student achievement and must be supported in that endeavor. The student needs to be prepared mentally and physically to receive this educational experience. I see it time and time again that support from home goes a long way in helping facilitate success.
I would keep cuts away from the classroom to maintain the best possible situation out in the trenches between educators and students. I would like to tie Administrative and School Board compensation directly to successes at the academic level. Also, encouraging (insisting) on more buy in from the families of the students costs nothing but time and effort on their part, yet cannot be matched in terms of results for the students and overall educational experience received.
The reason why my family and other people in our community are kind is because we do not tolerate intolerance. It is important to experience different ethnicities and cultures and situations in life through exposure to people and their stories from whatever lot in life they are living to prepare a young person for the vast diversity they will experience when out in the real world. To facilitate this in the classroom we would need to uphold merit achievements while enforcing this just platform.
My position on School Board back when I served and again if elected would be to be a reliable and accountable representative. I believe an elected official should be nothing more than a vessel to bring the voice of the constituents they serve to the table whether or not that elected official personally champions the topic or concern. There is nothing more important than a well supported and content staff and involved family structure to insure student success in their educational experience.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.

VOTE411 is brought to you by the League of Women Voters Education Fund and League of Women Voters of Minnesota Education Fund. The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for office.
