Please describe how you will engage teachers and families in your decision making process. (500 characters)

I am the best candidate for the school board due to my personal experience as a parent, community involvement, and commitment to education. With three children in the district, I understand the challenges families face, including issues with bullying and IEP/504 plans. My active role in local organizations has given me valuable insight into community needs and concerns. I prioritize transparency, collaboration, and fairness, ensuring decisions reflect the voices of teachers, families, and students. My goal is to create a supportive and effective educational environment for all.
If elected, my top three priorities will be addressing bullying, improving access to special education resources, and enhancing teacher support. Bullying impacts students' safety and success, so I will push for stronger policies and training. I will work to streamline IEP/504 processes to ensure all students receive necessary support. Lastly, teachers need fair pay and resources, so I’ll advocate for better compensation and support, ensuring quality education for all.
If forced to cut the budget, my strategy would focus on minimizing the impact on students and essential programs. I'd prioritize cutting non-essential expenses, seek input from staff and the community, and explore efficiency improvements. I’d also look for alternative funding sources like grants and partnerships. Protecting core educational services and ensuring that teachers have the necessary tools and support to maintain a high-quality learning environment would remain a top priority.
To address racial and economic disparities, I will ensure equitable resource distribution so all students have access to quality materials and support. I’ll advocate for an inclusive curriculum and staff training to enhance cultural awareness and sensitivity. Additionally, I will support programs that offer extra academic and emotional support to disadvantaged students, aiming to close achievement gaps and provide equal opportunities for success.
I will engage teachers and families in the decision-making process by holding regular meetings, open forums, and surveys to gather input on key issues. I’ll create a transparent environment where educators and parents feel comfortable sharing concerns and ideas. By fostering collaboration and ensuring all voices are heard, I aim to incorporate their perspectives into policy decisions, improving outcomes for students and addressing the needs of both teachers and families.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
