My daughter and granddaughter had a wonderful experience attending the BHM schools and I appreciate the talented teachers and staff in the schools. Since retiring, I have felt called to contribute to the BHM school system. I have a degree in elementary education from the University of Minnesota, and currently teach at the University of St. Thomas in their graduate program. Teaching has given me an appreciation of the time, effort and trade-offs involved in the education process. I have worked in industry for many years, and as a VP was responsible for managing a large staff and budget. I believe that my combined experience in education and business will help me make meaningful contributions to the school board.
1. Education should provide an encouraging, safe environment for students to learn and grow. It is important to tailor education to individual student needs as much as possible, while maintaining the balance of the classroom environment. To do this, engage the students, parents, and school staff to form a successful learning environment for all students. 2. Attract and retain excellent teachers and school staff. 3. Maintain a fiscally responsible BHM budget.
It is important to protect the students, and make sure they are receiving an education that will help them succeed in life. Therefore, class size and the learning environment should be protected as much as possible. If cuts are needed, it is critical to listen to parents, students and staff to understand their perspectives. Since budget cuts can affect people's lives, it is important to communicate the changes as early and clearly as possible.
It is important to look at each student as an individual and provide a positive learning environment for all students. The school board and school staff should partner with parents to ensure that the school is a place where all students feel welcome and safe.
If I am elected to the school board, I will make it a priority to address any questions or concerns from teachers and families. Communication is critical to the education process, and working together, we can do what is best for the students!

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.

VOTE411 is brought to you by the League of Women Voters Education Fund and League of Women Voters of Minnesota Education Fund. The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for office.
