Ramsey County Commissioner District 7

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. Learn more about the day in the life of a county commissioner in this video from the Association of Minnesota Counties.A candidate forum for this race is available at https://vod.maplewoodmn.gov/CablecastPublicSite/show/1547?channel=1. If elected, what will your top three priorities be and why? (750 characters)

How would you ensure election laws do not create barriers to Minnesotans’ freedom to vote while also ensuring safe and secure elections? (500 characters)

What do you see as the biggest challenges to mental health and social services in your county, and how would you address them? (500 characters)

Community Prosperity I will attract and retain business, support local entrepreneurs and invest in workforce development. By fostering a strong, diverse economy, we can create jobs and improve the quality of life for all residents.

Environmental Sustainability As Anishinaabe, I believe in planning 7 generations ahead. Protecting our environment is a moral obligation and an urgent necessity. I will work for bold policies aligned with the County’s Climate Equity Action Plan addressing climate change and protecting our natural resources.

Health and Wellness County services help improve our lives. I will work hard to ensure access to health care services, mental health resources, and social services are easy, accessible, and responsive.
The County has a huge role ensuring election laws do not create barriers to voting while promoting integrity & security. I support enhancing voter accessibility thru early voting options, advocating for more locations with extended hours, ensuring mail-in ballots have clear instructions & are easily accessible & returnable. For election security, I support thorough training for poll workers to assist voters & conducting audits of election results, and reporting the findings & corrective actions.
I see firsthand how policies affect people and how Ramsey County’s many great services can help communities, but they must be more accessible and responsive. I believe the biggest challenge is being responsive in a timelier manner. As someone who works closely with the community, that is the biggest complaint. We need to make sure our county services are adequately staffed, properly trained, and paid a living wage. Workers must also be given the tools needed to address job-related stresses.

Affordable Housing Access: Housing stability determines community and individual well-being. I will prioritize expanding affordable housing options, providing county-based social worker support for unhoused populations, and creating viable pathways to homeownership.

Community Economic Development: Small businesses are integral to the fabric of our neighborhoods, contributing to our community's unique character and identity. By supporting our small businesses and expanding community development, we can ensure our neighborhoods flourish.

Climate Justice: Ramsey County has fallen behind Hennepin County in carbon-reduction and waste mitigation programming and incentives. I will prioritize climate impact reduction and material reuse.
My campaign has prioritized combatting misinformation and disinformation on voter access, early voting options, vote-by-mail, and other crucial aspects of our elections. Ramsey County's election laws can ensure freedom to vote by prioritizing clear, accessible information on all available voting methods, especially for local elections, which directly impact our communities. I also advocate for transparent election audits and robust cybersecurity to safeguard election integrity.
Ramsey County's biggest challenge in mental health and social services include limited access to care due to wait times and underfunding, especially for vulnerable populations such as our unhoused neighbors. To address this, I would advocate for increased funding for mental health programs, specifically broadening the number of well-trained social services professionals employed by the county. Strengthening healthcare partnerships will ensure comprehensive and timely support for those in need.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
