I have spent the last two years understanding the inner workings of municipal governments and developing good working relationships with the Hoyt Lakes city staff. I was raised in Hoyt Lakes. Met my wife Amy (Skala) of 13 years while attending Mesabi East. We have two young children and recently purchased a house in Hoyt Lakes. I have assisted or coached youth soccer and baseball teams. As an Information Technology Specialist, I have experience solving problems and explaining complex issues in simple terms. Before my time on the council, I began writing grants for the Snowmobile and ATV Club in Hoyt Lakes. I have secured over $232,000 in grants to improve trails, promote youth training, and purchase equipment.
City water quality is an issue that effects every resident and business. It is a massive project and should be carefully considered for the future of Hoyt Lakes. Raising costs and stretching budgets is becoming more important with inflation, fewer residents, and less businesses. While some taxes are out of the city’s control, the council should do what they can to reduce the burden on the residents. The Boase school must be removed for the safety of Hoyt Lakes residents.
I have learned a great deal during my time on the council. If elected as Mayor, I would like to work with the city administrator to improve the audio quality of our council meeting recordings. Additionally, I would like to see more community posts on official city social media pages. The Hoyt Lakes city council will be facing a number of important issues in the near future. Public forums would be a good way to hear from residents before the vote is brought to the council.
I welcome community members to bring issues to myself, the council, or to the city staff. I have made myself available to staff and community members through meetings, instant messaging, email, and phone calls. The more information I can collect on any given issue, the better decision I can make on the council. I have also encouraged residents to speak on any issue during the public comment period of a council meeting.
Hoyt Lakes is blessed to have a fantastic police force. If elected, I will continue to be a part of the public safety board and further develop relationships with the department staff. After recent staffing changes, it will be important to work with the department to maintain and expand the community policing culture that has been established. I hope to see continued police involvement in community events and additional programs brought to the school and residents.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
