The recent legislative session was historic. After years of divided government prevented meaningful progress for our state, we passed universal free school meals, legalized cannabis, adopted gun violence prevention measures, codified reproductive freedom, and banned forever chemicals. Yet more needs to be done to build a state that works for everyone. We need to continue investing in our public schools, fund transit that will benefit the suburbs, and continue protecting our environment.
The legislature adopted a variety of tax cuts to help low- and middle-income families in Minnesota. These included one-time tax rebates, expanding the child tax credit, expanding the Social Security subtraction, and property tax cuts. Our job measures should help families as well - these include banning noncompete agreements, addressing worker misclassification, supporting U of M workers, and banning junk fees.
Tragically, racial disparities permeate every aspect of life in Minnesota. In education, the legislature invested in early childhood education, teachers of color, and a “North Star Promise” to help students with tuition costs to help reduce disparities. Expanding access to health care can help address disparities in health care. The legislature put worker protections in place - paid family and medical leave and earned sick and safe time - which will help address disparities in the workforce.
Minnesota is one of the fastest warming states in the country. To address this, the legislature required 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040. We also created the Minnesota Climate Innovation Finance Authority - a “green bank” - to accelerate proven clean energy technology. Finally, we invested in weatherization and supported electric vehicles. Despite these changes, Minnesota’s energy systems are still dominated by fossil fuels. I support similar efforts to address the climate crisis.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
