Anoka County Commissioner District 6

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. Learn more about the day in the life of a county commissioner in this video from the Association of Minnesota Counties.A candidate forum for this race is available at https://youtu.be/d1Xpkuit5wI. Transportation–Continued funding for TH65 and additional funding for TH47, plus priorities for county-owned roads where road integrity has been ignored and growth is being projected. Included in this category is traffic safety. We must build and rebuild our roads with “safety first.” Water–One of our most valuable commodities, we have a unique opportunity to protect our water for future generations. Appointed to the Metro Area Water Supply Advisory Council, I have the unique opportunity to represent my community to do that. Adaptive Programs–Our resources, programs, and services must be accessible for all, regardless of their ability. Our Parks and Library Departments are already doing this work, and we need to expand it even further.
As election laws are determined by the state, I will support candidates who do not create barriers to voting. As the actual elections are a county responsibility, I will continue to support our most-qualified staff in ensuring they have whatever they need to comply with MN laws and mandates, including personnel, technology, security, etc. The ability to vote is a sacred, American right and should be continued to be treated as such.
The demand for these services is skyrocketing. From the youngest of the young to the oldest of the old, mental illness does not discriminate. This demand on our county system is struggling, and we have real challenges in keeping up. The systems we are required to use are antiquated and the number of workers available to fill the positions are fewer and fewer. We need a system overhaul because the "way we've always done it" isn't working now and it won't be working for the future.

Crime has been a major issue in my area, I'm aware of what goes on in our communities. A decent amount of buisnesses being broken in to, robberies, & shootings. It's gotten out of hand and we need someone that is going to work with the police force & the community to deal with this. Another priority is keeping the tax abatement low or not to increase it if possible, The Anoka County Board of Comissioners has done a wonderful job of keeping it low. The only increase I'm aware of in the past 5 years was the end of 2023. Infrastructure repairs that are often overlooked, such as University Ave NB & SB lanes under Hwy 610. There are ruts that can be extremely dangerous when raining. They fill up with water and could cause accidents.
The role of county commissioner pertaining to elections, is to be accountable to my electorate by listening to, diligently researching, and to identify issues, concerns or disparities in state law. Minnesota has long been a leader in voter participation and in 2023, legislation was passed to break down barriers. However the system is not flawless. I will do my best to ensure the process is secure, fair and transparent so that every legally cast vote is counted.
The Anoka County Public Health & Environmental Services partners with a number of local stakeholder's who are tuned into the health of our community. They do a fantastic job in strategic planning, setting goals and objectives. They are then are prioritized, publicized and acted on. Current need outpaces financial realities; so I would support looking at rates of success to determine what methods work best to meet the needs of the community.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
