I am the pro-choice candidate who will reduce property taxes and address crime at the root cause.

Wise stewardship will create funding that can be invested in public safety even with the approval of property tax petitions. Addressing crime at the root cause will result in safer communities and lower net costs. Homelessness and unemployment are 2 primary factors for recidivism. In addition to mental health support, there are current programs that target these 2 factors. One Hennepin employee, who works with the homeless, stated that you can not control grown adults. Some do not want housing if it means they will have to work to contribute in any way. This is a harsh truth we must face as we set boundaries to address public safety.
Fair elections are the foundation of democracy. We must all work together to clearly define what this looks like.
Current employees who provide mental health treatment point to a shortage in staffing for mental health. Programs such as Canopy Roots, divert 911 mental health emergencies from police to trained mental health responders. Their service model de-escalates conflict, is trauma informed, and result in better outcomes for the community. Re-allocating funds toward programs such as these can have a major impact.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.

VOTE411 is brought to you by the League of Women Voters Education Fund and League of Women Voters of Minnesota Education Fund. The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for office.
