I am Robert Canada and have been a resident of North Branch since 2004. I am currently a Council Member on the North Branch City Council. I am a retired FBI Special Agent of 23 years, and prior to that served as Captain in the United States Army, U.S. Cavalry for ten years military service. Presently, I am the Security Director for Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America in Golden Valley, MN. The last two years I have proven my Leadership on the Council. I strove to be a visionary for growing the City of North Branch with residential housing and small businesses, and to sustain a strong Public Safety Sector for Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS services. But most importantly to be fiscally prudent with the city budget.
If I am re-elected, I want to continue to commit to my goals for the City of North Branch to sincerely listen intently from the residents and businesses in North Branch. I am committed to North Branch housing for all needs. Secondly to provide business opportunities for commercial and lite industrial. Thirdly, ensure everyone in North Branch is safe and knows that North Branch has adequate Law Enforcement, Fire Department services, and to partner with the EMS services in North Branch.
Engaging with and representing all residents and businesses of our diverse community entails a person to sincerely understand the diverse interests and to allow everyone the opportunity to speak and to be heard. I humbly believe I have this trait that I have listened in the past and to care for their opinion(s). I may not have answers, but I will research and follow up with a response. Residents and businesses just want to be heard and respected so that they may grow and live in North Branch.
I believe I have been transparent and provided accountability with the North Branch city government. This means accountability of all members in City Hall and city service providers. Transparency is communicating to residents and businesses what city departments are managing. Being Accountable is acknowledging the value of residences and businesses hard earned tax dollars and manage the budget of expected services from city government, such as public works, public safety and parks and trails.
I’ve worked for Polaris Industries for the past 12 years and have 20 years of experience total with them. I understand what it takes to manage an affective team and how to manage funds in a proper manner. Also I have experience laying out plans for the future which I think will help me in navigating the future challenges of our community. I am a Christian and a fiscally conservative republican (traditional), both of these things will guide me in my decisions in leadership just as they do throughout my everyday life. It is time for me to give more back to my local community and I hope you support me in November to represent you on our City Council!
Growth
I will work to drive balanced growth to benefit all of North Branch residents. Residential – Continue to support balanced growth in all areas of housing, this includes affordable housing.
Industrial/Commercial –This will include supporting new options and expansion/growth with our current business partners in the area! This will also expand employment opportunities locally.
Transparency-More on this below. Community 1st means focusing on North Branch and not battles inside the council.
We need to simplify the city website and work to reach out to people on other formats that they are already using like facebook, Communicating with the community in the forums in which they live they lives is important. Also adding digital tools and expanding the electronic surveys to better understand what investments the residents would like to make in our community.
Striving towards a city that works to communicate often and in the formats in which the citizens regularly use. Openness, I will share my opinions on topics, and we may not agree but you at least will know where I stand. Collaborative, driving for more platforms citizens can participate and share ideas and feedback on/in. This will include more involvement for business/citizen lead “task forces” to jump on specific issues (like a community center – What, Where, When, How we do it).
