I have been immersed in a diverse array of education for the past 60 years: 9 years in parochial school; 4 years in public high school; 3 years at Lake Forest College (BS in Biology); 4 years at the University of Illinois (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). Since my 1985 graduation, I have been dedicated to educating my clients on how best to take care of their animals regardless of species. I pioneered my own practice in 1999 and now a small business owner of two separate entities. My decades long career as a veterinarian has honed my listening & observational skills as well as my ability to make accurate diagnoses leading to successful outcomes. Thus, my life experiences make me ideally suited for this position.
1. Getting a firm diagnosis for the causes of our students repeated performance failures on standardized tests. this will involve a top to bottom, hands-on strip down of all curriculum materials and methods. I expect parental presence in every class. 2. Establish performance pay for educators that instill in our students the joy of learning and thus, produce higher test scores. 3. Review areas of district involvement in non-educational functions that dilute tax dollar returns.
See answer #3 above. The failure of children to learn is NOT due to a failure in funding. The problem is the funding of too many things that prevent their learning. If declining revenues do occur and budgets will need to be cut, I would hope we would have proactively compiled a list of administration and programs lined up by the chopping block. On the other hand, if we get items #1 & #2 above corrected, we should have a net inflow of little learners coming into #318.
I reject out of hand any reference of "race". We are all humans. We are all Minnesotans. Trying to divide us in any way is a Marxist tactic and serves NO purpose in educating children. SHAME ON YOU FOR THIS QUESTION.
As mentioned above, for diagnostic purposes I would put 1-2 parents in every class, every day to be the "canaries in the coal mines". What they hear and observe will be invaluable in the diagnosis of our children's failure to thrive educationally. As we begin to receive their feedback, we will then be able to interact with specific teachers to discuss the happenings within their classrooms.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
