We all want quality, well-run schools. I don't complain about problems, I help solve them. That includes digging into the data, seeking other perspectives and gaining consensus. These are skills needed to address the full range of policy, performance and financial challenges to ensuring all students what they need to thrive and succeed.

In my first term, I’ve helped lead our School Board with purpose and positivity, and a with a focus on respect, collaboration and transparency. And I’m committed to continuing our momentum to advance academic achievement, help students, families, and teachers feel supported and connected, and ensure transparency and fiscal responsibility.
Our community wants to know our kids are getting a quality education, that our schools are safe and welcome places for education, and that we are getting good value for our tax dollars. I look forward to building on our momentum to advance academic achievement; help students, families, and teachers feel supported and connected; and ensure transparency and fiscal responsibility.
This isn’t hypothetical. Our district has reduced spending, cutting nearly $5 million over the past 4 years. If our operating levy is not approved in November, the district will need to cut $5 million more next year. I will continue to work to mitigate the impact on classroom and instructional resources. And I will continue to help lead our legislative advocacy for relief from costly, un- and under-funded mandates.
Addressing disparities first requires understanding data within our own district. In my first term, we dug deeper into the data from NWEA, ACT and other tests. I supported the district’s application for Achievement & Integration Grants, and aligning those investments to advancing literacy goals, improving participation in advanced placement and college/career preparation opportunities among racial and socioeconomically disadvantaged students, and increasing diversity in hiring and retention.
Throughout my career, I’ve demonstrated skill at connecting ideas and people to create new opportunities and form a clear point of view to solving problems. I keep an open mind and a curious heart, which means I am unafraid to ask questions and challenge assumptions in search of greater understanding. I routinely visit our schools to connect with teachers and administrators and meet with members of our community to understand and address their concerns. This is table stakes for elected officials

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
