I was on the Planning Commission here for about a year. I saw firsthand the power trip/ego/lack of common-sense attitude by most city officials which presented a great hardship to homeowners and businesses. I question why people would spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to run for a position that pays a few thousand dollars? For those reasons I listed. I have worked 30 years as a Paramedic in the Twin Cities to do good for people and can do that for the citizens of Forest Lake. I don't do lawn signs. Imagine Germany in 1933 and the people saw "Hitler" signs everywhere and voted for him because they saw his name. I don't do social media, it invades your privacy. Can I win, probably one in a million. So you say I got a chance!
1) Abolish the Planning Commission and replace it with a streamlined process where decisions are made quickly and fairly. As part of this, I would eliminate ⅓ to ½ of all the city ordinances which interfere with the freedom to own property or run a business. 2) Stop wasting money and start earning money. The money the city spent hiring a new city administrator was ridiculous. I would start city owned profit machines (municipal liquor, auto/home insur.) 3) Get the weeds in FL under control!
Wow. An ethical government? Great concept but deals are made for friends all the time. Look at some of the homes around the lake. They must have known somebody. I would be the "friend" to all people. I would always have a third person in on any discussion where critical decisions are made. Our books would be your books. If you want to bring in an accountant to look, be my guest. My style is like Sheriff Andy Taylor of Mayberry. Casual and trustworthy. (Under 50 check YouTube)
Why, call me up and let's head to Big Apple Bagel and have a chat. If you want more than that our city council meetings would all be open for public input. A dedicated phone line would be put in just for public input on issues AND IT WILL BE LISTENED TO EARNESTLY.
1) Have a “Must Comply” law. When you are pulled over you must put your hands on the steering wheel, answer questions appropriately without abusive language or face very stiff fines. I’d put up signs as you enter Forest Lake, “Forest Lake, A Must Comply City”. 2) I’d jack up the enforcement and penalties for selling drugs in our city so the drug dealers would just leave. 3) I’d have public obscenity laws enforced against foul language printed or oral anywhere where children are present.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
