Anoka County Commissioner District 5

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. If re-elected my top priorities will be the approval of a new Anoka County Jail in a site suitable to the city of Anoka and to the State of Minnesota. Make sure the vital data of our citizens is protected from cyber-attacks to the best of our ability. Continue our work on the Veterans issue that our Midwest Medical Examiners have been working on regarding VA doctors refusing to sign a death certificate of a veteran who has passed away and had not recently seen their doctor. This causes delays and anxiety for the families of our veterans that is uncalled for and needs action immediately.
The Minnesota State Legislature is where laws are passed regarding voting. At the County level we follow the state laws regarding voting, and I am convinced that our elections are safe, secure, and accurate. The current laws assure that the machines are accurate, and all procedures laid out are followed by the counties throughout Minnesota. Our Anoka County election team has conducted the pre-testing on the machines before the Primary Election and everything is ready for August 13th.
In the past two sessions, the Minnesota Legislature has prioritized mental health issues, resulting in new programs that counties will now implement. Minnesota counties have been actively lobbying in St. Paul for these changes, with our Social Services team leading the charge. Addressing mental health concerns has become our top priority, and part of the solution will involve the construction of a new jail.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
