Having been a business owner in the district for over 26 years and having covered meetings in the past through our local newspaper, I feel that I have the knowledge and leadership to make good decisions for our school. I have also covered additional schools in the area and I see what other districts are doing to improve and make them noticed as "excellent" and "note-worthy" facilities in the area. I believe in transparency and keeping our public informed with everything going on in our district, in sports and in our school.
One would be to get our academics to higher level, and to be one of the better districts in southeast Minnesota. My wife graduated from a small school in Illinois with an average of about 30-40 students. The goal of that school was to have their students one of the top 10 small schools in Illinois for SAT scores. All the teachers and administration have to buy into that to make that happen, and I believe they can. We also need to have all teachers striving to better our students academically.
My strategy would be to really look at why this is happening. Are we not an attractive school for students/families to attend? Other schools in the area are growing, so why can't that be us? However, if this is out of our control, we would still need to keep a balanced budget and keep pressure on our administration in making that happen. I would definitely listen to suggestions from our administration and especially the superintendent, and then vote for the proper adjustments.
Our administration has certain rules to follow, and are educated to do their jobs and do them very well. I would let them make those proper decisions. I can make some suggestions, but for the most part it would be up to them in making the right decisions on that. I am a supporter of those needing help, and will do my best to make choices that would benefit them, but in a way that they can also give back to the school, such as participating in FFA, in sports, in other programs.
By attending all the meetings possible and helping our administration make the correct choices in making our school a better place. We also own the newspaper, so by attending these meetings, we can give the school better coverage in helping keep the transparency in our district, but also to promote the good things happening in our schools. It's important that our teachers and families have a great relationship, so we do want our administration to do their job in doing job reviews and helping.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
