I have been working with the school and parents since I started my antibullying group three years ago. I have a good relationship with staff and a lot of the community. I am an open book and determined to find answers to questions. I am very passionate about what is going on in our schools and how it not only effects children and staff but the community as a whole.
Better communication. There is a definite gap in the communication between the district and the community. Either some don't understand what is being said or they don't have social media to know of events happening. Transparency. I want any information the community has to be easily found and accessible. It also needs to be easily understood. Unity. My goal is to make everyone's voices be heard! Whether you're an adult or student!
I would examine the budget closely with my fellow board members. I would see if there were any areas we could possibly shift funds around and possibly cut the cost of some things without having to make major cuts that greatly effect the quality of the classroom or school life in general.
It will not be tolerated. No one race or financial bracket is greater than the other. If there were a group or person that was violating this they should be dealt with on a "strike" system. Verbal warning, written warning, disciplinary action whether it be suspension or termination depending on the severity of the situation. Same concept for students except the third strike should be some sort of suspension.
I always make myself easily available. The people who have worked with me this far know that no matter who you are I am going to treat you the same. I find answers quickly or direct them where to go. People know that if they tell me something in confidence it stays with me and goes nowhere else. I check in and ask people how they are doing or how they think things are going and if they feel everything is being handled how they think they should be.

I have worked with students & parents in multiple settings in the public setting for 23 years. I currently substitute teach in the Thief River Falls public schools, coach & volunteer with students in multiple churches in the community. I believe students are not just future leaders, but leaders today. I also believe our community today is as strong as it is because of it’s investment in our students in the past. My relationship with our district & understanding of what is needed to make a school run well will help me make decisions that will continue to make our schools safe, support healthy staff culture & continue to develop students that will be a valuable part of our community.
Students needs come first. Our students are why we exist. We are not here to fulfill any agenda other than what will help them succeed. Teachers/Staff are equipped & supported. We cannot expect students to excel if teachers/staff are not equipped & given the support needed to properly teach & develop. Teachers/Staff are our greatest assets! Clearly communicate with parents/community. The board’s job is to keep the public informed on the district. Communication with the community keeps it engaged
-Be informed on the situation -Talk to administrators & staff to see what they believe should be done. -Share with parents & see what they think should be done -Take as much time as possible to process all possible options in order to make the best decisions for our students best decisions for our students -Make the necessary cuts -Communicate with the community & parents of why each cut was made and what needs to be done to course correct.
If I see any racial or economic disparities, I will address them immediately. I believe every student is to be treated equally. Equal opportunities is what makes the public education system a beautiful concept. There are many nuances in issues like race & financial disparity. If it is a district issue, I will address it with those who need to be addressed within the district, if it is a state issue, we will address it with the state.
Teachers & parents are our greatest asset. They understand what works & what doesn’t with their students. We cannot make decisions based on our own understanding, but the experts in the field & at home. Being a parent myself, it keeps me engaged with the school when they ask me my advice. I will continue to ask parents & teachers what they think is best in every decision that needs to be made in our district. I value their advice!
Through my experience serving on various boards, I’ve come to understand the power of collaboration. It’s through working alongside fellow board members, teachers, administrators, and staff that we can combine our strengths to achieve a shared goal: providing all students with the best opportunities for success. As a banker, I specialize in reviewing financials and creating solutions to help businesses and farms thrive. Similarly, in the school district, my aim is to ensure that our students have the resources they need to prosper, while also being fiscally responsible with the district’s budget.
Giving students the best opportunity to succeed by giving them the necessary resources and a safe environment to learn. Our number one asset in ISD 564 is our staff. I want to ensure that the staff of the district have the support and resources they need to educate our students. We continue to increase our costs and decrease our revenue, this is not a sustainable cycle and it is an issue we need to find a solution for. It will not be solved unless we get local support to fill any gap.
As we have done in the past, it is about trying to find the least amount of student impact and making the necessary cuts. Each time we have had to make cuts, it makes a deeper and longer lasting impact to our students. We will again look at everything and see what services and facilities are absolutely necessary and then go through all other items and make some really difficult decisions.
Education is a great equalizer in that all children in America have the right to a free public education regardless of where they come from, what their beliefs are or what they look like. This is a basic foundation of our country and if we stay true to that and get our services to the members of our community, the hope is they will have more opportunities because of that. We definitely want to ensure that the under privileged are not under served.
I have only been a Director for a little over a year and I have been in each of our buildings to speak with staff and ensure they know that they are supported and that they have a voice in our communities and our school. The community should know all of the great things happening in our district. We have had some tough times in our district as of recent but that doesn't change the fact that we have great people in our district and those people help foster great human beings!

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
