Dakota County Soil and Water Supervisor District 1

SWCDs are local units of government that manage and direct natural resource management programs. Districts work in both urban and rural settings, with landowners and with other units of government, to carry out actions for the conservation of soil, water, and related natural resources. They are subject to state statutes and rules as a public body.

I have a passion for conservation and my past civil and community service has provided the skills to represent the residents of District One for Dakota County. When I served on the Hastings City Council, I learned it takes collaboration to get results. Reflecting back on my service, I am surprised we did not interact or communicate more with the elected board of county commissioners. I hope to bridge the gap of communication with other policy makers and put together reasonable but effective policies for all residents to protect our soil and water for years to come.
Relationship building will be my top priority. Connecting with other decision makers is important but also connecting with residents and businesses to better understand their operations and how development and policies will affect them. Education is the next priority. I will continue to educate myself from the professional experts in the field of soil and water as well as learning what other soil and water conservation districts are accomplishing or struggling at both county and statewide.
Constituents want their concerns to be heard and acknowledged and want their representative to share these concerns with the appropriate decision making boards. Having a consistent message to residents is very important. I am an advocate for Dakota County staff members who are experts in their field to disseminate their message in a clear and engaging manner to the public. Many of the residents of Dakota County under utilize the resources that the department of Soil and Water has to offer.
Dakota County is one of many civic offices that can provide concise messaging, fact checked information and education to residents and businesses on best practices for the current and future health of our watersheds.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.

VOTE411 is brought to you by the League of Women Voters Education Fund and League of Women Voters of Minnesota Education Fund. The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for office.
