Frazee City Mayor (Special Election)

The mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. They also can preside at council meetings and appoint city workers. A mayor usually has a role in proposing a city budget which influences services provided to residents and can veto ordinances proposed by the city council. I feel that I am the best candidate because I have extensive experience in city government, and I have a proven track record of listening to and providing meaningful results for residents. For the past eight years, I have served on the City Council, much of which as Vice-Mayor, and most recently as Interim Mayor. Prior to moving to Frazee, I worked as a community development consultant for more than 40 cities. Collectively, this experience has provided me a firm understanding of how city government functions and how to get things done. With this experience, I have led the effort for many changes asked for by residents, including capping the amount of homes that can be converted into rentals and the completion of the railroad quiet zone.
My top three priorities will be to enact and enforce the strictest dangerous dog ordinance in the State, expand our railroad quiet zone westward, and to clean-up dilapidated homes in our neighborhoods. The recent unprovoked dog attack on a resident in her own yard has made it very clear that dangerous dogs need to be banned from our City. My other priorities will help to improve the quality of life of current residents and make Frazee an even more desirable place to live for future residents.
I will continue to promote transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in our City government by ensuring compliance with current State and Federal laws related to financial audits, data practices, and open meetings. Also, I will continue to work to foster a team-like culture between our City Council and City staff in which we work together to be successful and encourage everyone to ask questions, especially if an action appears to be inappropriate or unethical.
Nearly all City-related meetings are open to the public and I have and will continue to welcome the input of residents at these meetings. In addition, I will advocate for increasing the membership of residents on the City’s various standing committees, such as the EDA and Parks and Recreation Committee, to ensure their involvement early on during decision-making processes. Lastly, I will continue to promptly respond to residents when they reach out to me with feedback or concerns.
I will continue to work to ensure that our police department, fire department, and rescue squad have the resources and training needed for their staff/members to do their jobs in a safe and professional manner.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
