Hubbard County Sheriff

The County Sheriff keeps peace and enforces laws to protect life and property. They respond to both emergency and non-emergency requests for law enforcement services and develop an effective, motivated workforce through education, training, and career opportunities. They also execute all processes, writs, precepts, and orders issued or made by lawful authority, attend upon the terms of the district court, and investigate recreational vehicle crashes involving personal injury or death that occur outside the boundaries of a municipality. Sheriffs maintain the charge and custody of the county jail and provide a secure and safe correctional facility with other law enforcement agencies.Use the MN Secretary of State’s Candidate Filing page (https://candidates.sos.mn.gov/) to find specific candidate contact information.Watch a candidate forum for this race recorded on September 22, 2026.Watch a candidate forum for this race recorded on September 28, 2026 (Guthrie Township).

I am the only candidate running that has the training and experience needed to successfully lead and operate the entire Sheriff's Office. There is no field training for a sheriff, they need to be prepared, experienced and ready for the responsibility of being the sheriff on day one.

I was born and raised in Hubbard County. My leadership and my ability to work with other agencies is why I am fully endorsed by the deputies of the Sheriff's Office and 4 sheriffs’.

I know the current tasks we are working on inside the office, what we need to adjust and the direction we are going. I also know the strengths and weaknesses of the employees in the office today and have a plan for what we will be doing in the future.
Drug enforcement and continuing the fighting against illegal drugs and drug trafficking.

Maintaining staffing would be one of the primary challenges. I have been out recruiting at colleges and departments to fill our staffing to its current full staffing capacities.

Mental health resources inside of our office for all employees and mental health and chemical health resources for inmates inside the correctional facility would also be a top priority.
I would continue to attend township meetings to meet and talk with people in the community. This gives the public a chance to ask questions and the sheriff's office an opportunity to give updates on current events in the sheriff's office.

I would also be accessible as the sheriff and continue to get information out through social media and press releases. Being out and available as the sheriff is important to me and the public and is one of the best ways to get direct information on the office
I have over 23 years of law enforcement experience. I have been a sergeant, supervising and leading deputies for over 11 years. I have supervised over 60 deputies during my time as a sergeant and field trained over 40 deputies and officers. Field training officer for 15 years SWAT Commander of the Year (BCA)- Supervisor/Leadership training-6 trainings Use of Force instructor for 14 years, expert witness Me leadership style is leading from the front, having accountability and growth by education
We work with gun education organizations now and have guest instructors through the sheriff's office help youth learn proper gun control and safety. We also give out free gun locks to keep guns safe around children. I will enforce gun laws against criminals breaking the law and continue to work with legislators. Gun violence and firearms related crimes such as our recent drive by shooting in Hubbard County is top priority to help prevent those crimes by criminal interdiction in neighborhoods.
I feel having good communication with federal agencies like immigration only helps all people involved. The sheriff's office has the best relationship with the community and the people that live in it, so having good communication between the agencies for any operations would only be beneficial. The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office will keep the peace and work with any law enforcement agency that is operating inside the county.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
