Anoka County Commissioner District 1

County commissioners are the county's key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. It’s not government’s money. It’s yours. -Use taxpayer dollars wisely. - End Fraud - Support Law and Order - Keep our roadways safe and efficient - Ensure Safe & Secure Elections
Support our local election officials in their capacity to ensure every legitimate vote counts. Support election judges by providing fast response from law enforcement should there be a need. Ensure chain of custody on ballots to be counted and certified.
By far drug addiction is a reality for our un-housed community. Our communities need to do better to address root causes and have the tough conversations to not just treat symptoms, but get at foundations. - This is obviously easier said than done. In the city of Anoka specifically -I’ve met and talked with some of the most known “homeless” . They’ve stayed in County paid hotels during winter months- have dedicated county social workers- but choose to live and sleep on streets.
Unfunded Mandates and Cost Shifts from both our Federal Government and State Legislature continue to enforce Anoka County and others (by law) to provide new and expanded services with no mechanism to fund such legislation. - I’m committed to continuing to educate our legislators at the federal level and the state of the unfair shell game. This year, Anoka County Levy will Represent 4%+ increase in just new cost shifts and unfunded mandates. This is absolutely unacceptable.
The county has nothing to do with Immigration enforcement. This is a job slated for the federal government. -There are laws on the books. I hope everyone follows the law. I’m confident and hopeful our judiciary will be able to sort out any grievances appropriately. Our law enforcement and citizens should abide by our state and federal laws.
Door knocking and attending events is paramount to learning. -Relationships matter. -be available for conversations. Engage.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
