Rice County Commissioner District 3

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. Learn more about the day in the life of a county commissioner in this video from the Association of Minnesota Counties. Any spending increase above inflation must have a clear benefit for those paying into it. We’re not a business looking for a literal return on investment. We use public tools to address problems that individuals and the private sector are not solving on their own.

For example, an investment in grab bars and other aging modifications that keeps a senior at home for two more years avoids hundreds of thousands of dollars in nursing home costs, saving that senior and our system money.
I am against the current wave of data center development and believe the county must protect us from their worst effects. Beyond increased contaminants from hard groundwater pumping, I am concerned about forever chemicals used by some data centers. We must use the public health authority to set level standards across industry that protect our air, water, and quiet. The public health authority reaches every municipality in the county, providing a level playing field across Rice County.
I am an organizer: events and digital media.
Our elections in Rice County are secure and transparent. I have served as an election judge in several elections and have seen firsthand how thorough and efficient our local system is. When issues arise, they are rectified efficiently. I have complete faith in our election system, as I did when I ran four years ago. I lost that race, but I had no doubt the result was accurate. That is what democracy looks like. I appreciate the hard work of every election judge in Rice County.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.

VOTE411 is brought to you by the League of Women Voters Education Fund and League of Women Voters of Minnesota Education Fund. The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for office.
