Wright County Commissioner District 3

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. Learn more about the day in the life of a county commissioner in this video from the Association of Minnesota Counties.

My top three priorities are reducing the tax burden, improving public safety, and increasing transparency and accountability. Wright County taxpayers are overtaxed by 13% because the Board continues taking a surplus every year for unplanned expenses. I ended similar practices in Otsego and will do the same for Wright County. While serving Otsego, I promised to reduce property taxes and delivered the first property tax reduction in our city’s history. I support the Sheriff's Office and will pursue regional fire service to reduce costs and share resources. As Commissioner, I will continue to provide weekly public updates explaining my positions and votes, and encourage greater public engagement.
Election integrity and voting access must both be protected, and security should be the priority when both are in conflict. As an Otsego Council Member, I supported removing voting drop boxes and reducing the in-person voting window to reduce opportunities for fraud. As Commissioner, I would support policies that maintain secure, transparent elections while ensuring legal voters have reasonable opportunities to cast their ballots.
The biggest challenge is ensuring taxpayer funded services reach the people who actually need them. Fraud happens when money is available and State officials are incentivized to look the other way. Independent audits at the County level are necessary to protect taxpayer money and ensure resources are directed appropriately. In the private sector, employees are often rewarded for identifying waste and fraud, and we should do the same with public employees.
Government should use the same principles that drive successful private organizations: clear metrics, reliable data, and accountability for results. My role as an elected official is to protect taxpayer dollars and help departments deliver services more efficiently. If a service cannot be delivered effectively or efficiently, I believe the private sector can do it better. With 20+ years in the financial industry, I bring experience evaluating performance, costs, and accountability.
Immigration enforcement is primarily a federal responsibility, and the County should work within its legal authority. That said, I would not support ordinances or policies that would make Wright County a sanctuary for criminal illegal aliens.
Wright County Board meetings are held twice a month in Buffalo at 9 am, which makes participation difficult for many residents. I support holding meetings throughout the County at times that make sense for citizens and adding a public comment to every meeting. I also publish a free weekly newsletter informing residents about local government. With more than 192 issues published, I have helped increase awareness of local issues and the importance of engaged citizens.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
