I am the current board chair who will bring continuity and direction to the work of the board as we finish the current term and begin the new one in January. I am a life-long learner who sees the work of the school board beyond the K-12 framework as an asset to this community. I am invested in the quality of public education as a parent of three students and in the long-term success of our district as a homeowner. I am open to hearing from all stakeholders and perspectives in order to find solutions that serve our community.
Academics. I will continue to focus on academics, making sure our students and staff have the tools they need to be successful. Budget. Budgets tell a story about what we prioritize, I will continue to make decisions that respect people: students, staff, and community. Advocacy. I will continue to champion our district by meeting with state leaders to tell the story of SSP and how their decisions impact us. And through working with the MSBA to make our priorities part of their lobbying agenda.
When cuts are needed, the district needs to minimize the impact on the day-to-day experiences of our students. As decisions get harder, I would ask for stakeholder feedback on what aspects of the budget we are willing to change and how possible cuts would directly impact our students. I would proactively work with staff and the administration to prioritize services and facilities appropriately, while fighting to make sure we take advantage of every funding source available.
I am open to hearing from our students, staff and families about what they are experiencing. I would direct the board to examine existing district policies that should be updated to address these disparities and work with the district leadership team on how to execute changes that will help make direct improvements. As a board we have to be willing to hear from student affinity groups and encourage advocacy that aims to improve SSP schools.
I invite stakeholders to engage with the district through the many venues we currently use, advisory councils, surveys, and public comment. I also engage with teachers and families through conversation, as I encounter folks throughout the community. Additionally, I am always available to connect with folks one-on-one. I am available by email or phone, and I will make time to meet with teachers, staff, students, family members, or concerned citizens that would like to connect with me.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
