I bring a combination of education experience, business experience, practical problem-solving and a long-term perspective. I understand that a school board is responsible for setting direction, establishing sound policy, overseeing the budget and holding district leadership accountable—not running the schools day to day. I value strong teachers and administrators, responsible use of public resources, and decisions based on evidence and results. I would approach the board with an open mind, listen carefully to our community, ask difficult questions when necessary, and work collaboratively toward decisions that serve District 191 students for the long term.
My three priorities would be: student achievement, responsible long-term planning, and strong district leadership. We need to ensure every student receives a strong education and graduates prepared for what comes next. We must make thoughtful decisions about facilities, staffing and finances before problems become crises. And we need to support and hold district leadership accountable for turning the board's goals into effective day-to-day operations
I would begin with the district's priorities and protect the core mission of educating students. I would want a clear understanding of the financial problem, examine programs and administrative costs, and distinguish essential services from activities that could be reduced, delayed or eliminated. I would look for efficiencies before cutting classroom services, while recognizing that difficult choices may be unavoidable. Every major reduction should be evaluated for its effect on students and the
I would begin by understanding the data and asking why disparities exist rather than assuming causes or solutions. I’d examine achievement, attendance and course access, identify factors the district can influence, and support targeted, evidence-based responses. We should measure results and adjust strategies that aren’t improving outcomes. Every student deserves high expectations and the opportunity to succeed.
I would listen before making decisions. Teachers bring firsthand classroom knowledge, while families offer insight into their children’s experiences. I use a Socratic approach—asking questions, challenging assumptions and seeking different perspectives before reaching conclusions. I would gather input through conversations, listening sessions and surveys. Listening doesn’t mean every suggestion becomes policy; it means giving each perspective thoughtful consideration.
I firmly believe in the importance of public education for not only our kids but also for our communities and our society. I benefited from public education from Kindergarten through graduate school and am proud to have my kids enrolled in our district.

Since being appointed to a vacated seat on our board early in 2025, I have demonstrated the ability to quickly get up to speed and be an effective director as I contributed to both the superintendent search and the most recent round of contract negotiations.

My extensive experience across organizations large and small, public and private, and for profit and not for profit, gives me a deep understanding governance, budgeting, strategic planning, learning and development, and communications.
My priorities are aligned with the board and our superintendent's vision for her second year in the district. We must continue to evolve and support our Pathways program through all age levels as it differentiates our district and can positively impact enrollment. We must also work with staff and family stakeholders to creatively drive consistent attendance which in turn supports academic achievement. We also need a robust long-term facilities plan that will meet district needs for many years.
Strategies around declining revenues are necessarily multi-layered as there are mandates for how some dollars must be spent and for services that must be provided. Tackling budget challenges requires district wide-collaboration, creativity, and ultimately difficult decisions for the board. The end goal is to minimize the number of students, staff, and programs impacted while ensuring we meet the foundational needs of all students.
As a current member of the board, I know we have a distinct focus on academic achievement for all students across our diverse district. We regularly review and analyze data tracking the progress of all students, identifying areas for improvement with specific cohorts. We also are careful to consider the impact of fees and other expenses on some of our families' experiences. We must continue to ensure all students have access to academic opportunities and activities that allow them to grow.
As a community member and parent in our district, I regularly ask others for their thoughts on key topics and initiatives in our district. I'm also available for questions and comments from teachers, families, and community members. Finally, like other board members, I continue to support the district's efforts to engage all stakeholders through meetings, surveys, and other opportunities for feedback.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
