Eden Prairie City Council Member {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

As local legislators who sometimes have executive power, council members can propose ordinances, set administrative policy, and authorize the budget proposed by the mayor. They oversee all city activities, including city services, programs, licensing, and public safety. Mayoral appointments to city government typically require council approval. As a Senior Application Director, I bring disciplined, data-driven problem-solving to complex decisions. As an Eden Prairie Duty Crew Firefighter, I understand public safety needs firsthand, not from a budget line. As Head Election Judge, I've built genuine trust with residents through transparency and follow-through. I've called Eden Prairie home since 2014, raising my daughters in our public schools. My approach is simple: weigh decisions against their real value and sustainability, keep our budget disciplined without sacrificing quality of life, and give residents a genuine voice before decisions are finalized, not after. That mix of hands-on service, professional rigor, and community roots is what this seat needs.
First, keep essential services funded and staffed as costs rise and light rail arrives in 2027. Second, stay fiscally disciplined: weigh every dollar against its real value and sustainability, not just against what other cities spend. Third, keep City Hall genuinely transparent, especially on major decisions like the mall redevelopment. These connect: disciplined budgeting funds strong public safety, and honest communication earns residents' trust to support both.
I've talked with residents across every cul de sac of Eden Prairie, and our diversity is a strength, not a challenge to manage. I'd push for practical, continuous outreach through the channels residents actually use, not just city newsletters, and broader youth and resident participation in our commissions and planning processes. Representation means genuine listening and equitable service delivery, not symbolic gestures, so every voice has an authentic seat at the table.
Transparency is the foundation of why I'm running. I'd build on tools like our Quality of Life Survey by creating structured ways for residents to weigh in before decisions are finalized, not just after. I want plain-language, line level explanations of what budget and levy decisions actually fund. As a head election judge, I've seen how much trust depends on consistency and follow-through, not just more announcements.

I am the best candidate for City Council because I combine a 30-year track record of professional problem-solving with a decades-long, proven commitment to Eden Prairie. Having lived here for over two decades, raised a family, served on the school board, and graduated from the Citizens Academy, I have a great understanding of our community's needs. My extensive volunteer work and my decades of corporate leadership have equipped me to bring diverse stakeholders together, manage complex challenges, and deliver results on strict deadlines. I don't just live in Eden Prairie; I have a great understanding of the challenges it faces. I want to ensure that Eden Prairie remains a great place to live, work and play for future generations.
When elected, my top three priorities will be: 1) Maintaining high levels of municipal services while managing levy increases, 2) Developing in a way that is both balanced and smart. Managing the competition between conservation and urban growth, and 3) Maintaining public safety as the community becomes more urbanized.
Representing all of Eden Prairie means meeting people where they are and ensuring everyone has a voice in our city's future. I plan to foster deep community engagement through the following approaches: • Broadcasting and accessibility • Direct and open dialogue • Structured collaboration
Trust is the foundation of local government. We deserve the right to be heard and informed. We deserve to know how and where our tax funds are spent. As your city council member, my goal is to ensure that every resident in Eden Prairie feels confident that their city government is working openly, honestly, and efficiently on their behalf. To achieve this, I will focus on the following key steps: • Simplifying Access to Information • Strengthening Public Engagement • Responsible Stewardship

As an executive leader for Eden Prairie Schools, former Obama White House staff member, and nationally recognized communicator, my career has been built on understanding complex systems, listening, finding common ground, and delivering real results. Mayor Ron Case describes me as “the face of our future,” representing the next generation of leadership ready to carry forward our city’s legacy of excellence. A gay man and adoptive parent, I bring deep empathy and an unyielding commitment to our future. I focus on pragmatic, collaborative, nonpartisan governance, which means solving problems, protecting our quality of life and green spaces, supporting our outstanding city staff, and keeping Eden Prairie welcoming, safe, and affordable for all.
The Council needs to look ahead, set clear policy, and empower staff. 1. Future-Proofing EP: Maintaining strong public safety, proactive climate resilience, and strict Council guardrails on emerging tech like AI and surveillance cameras. 2. Affordability: Championing zoning for lifecycle housing, expanding commercial childcare access, and supporting business development. 3. Succession Planning: Retaining top-tier city staff and our AAA bond rating, and preparing the next generation of leaders.
As a communications leader, I know authentic engagement means going to residents rather than waiting for them to come to us. I will ensure city boards and commissions reflect our community’s full breadth and advocate for multicultural accessibility, across language and traditions. I support Ranked Choice Voting to empower each person’s voice and foster unity. By meeting individual needs, creating feedback channels, and leading with empathy, we can make every person feel seen, heard, and valued.
Transparency means engaging residents early, before major decisions are made. My role on Council is to set future-forward policies while empowering expert staff to manage daily operations transparently, with accountability through the City Manager. This includes developing and communicating clear guardrails on municipal technologies, including AI and surveillance. Finally, I will ensure our budget shows how public investments deliver the high-quality services and amenities our community expects.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
