I am a lifelong resident of Houston and care deeply about Houston being the best town in which to live and raise a family or retire. As the former Superintendent of Houston Public Schools, I understand state guidelines, rules, and procedures and know I can work within those regulations to create positive changes in the city. I also have the experience of being the child of former city council members. My father was city clerk until his death, at which time my mother stepped in to fill out his term and was then elected to serve as clerk. I was raised knowing the importance of the actions the council takes and the impact those actions can have on the city. That knowledge has stayed with me and will be carried into my role as mayor.
One priority is to create an organized schedule of upgrades that provide sound water and sewer lines and repaired streets for the community without significantly impacting the amount of taxes the residents need to pay. Another priority is to analyze the recommendations that will be coming from the Minnesota Design Team to address those improvements we can implement more easily and to create a plan for those improvements that are desired but take more logistics to implement.
I am very accustomed to leading meetings that are streamed online and can be accessed live and after the fact. Ensuring that we are meeting the community members where they are, whether that means they come to meetings or want to access those meetings from the comfort of their own homes, lends itself to transparency, accountability and ethical conduct. Decisions will be explained so Houstonites will know the “why” behind every decision. I follow the “under promise and over deliver” philosophy.
I have used surveys in the past to solicit feedback and to find areas of concern or potential opportunities. I would like to use surveys periodically to gather information from the community; however, I do not want the residents to get survey fatigue or to feel as if the answers they give on the surveys do not lead to changes within the community. I will also have listening sessions so community members can come for coffee and know I will be there to listen and ask questions about their wishes.
My heart will always be with the children within the community; making sure the town is a safe and nurturing place for them to grow and thrive is very important to me. I am very comfortable working with law enforcement and have worked effectively with local and county officers in my past occupation. I hope to continue that as mayor to ensure Houston has what it needs to remain the safe, supportive community it is.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
