I bring over 20+ years of public service, executive leadership, and crisis management as a sociologist, educator, Founder of SOWETO NFH, and Chair of the Moorhead Human Rights Commission. As a first-generation college graduate who worked full-time to earn my degrees, I know the value of hard work and stretching a paycheck. My career began in customer service, teaching me to listen deeply and solve problems hands-on. Managing multi-million-dollar budgets and working in behavioral health, local schools, and with Tribal Communities, I bring the work ethic, empathy, and practical experience needed to lead Ward 3 effectively.
First, keeping Moorhead affordable by rebalancing tax incentives so businesses pay their fair share without placing unfair tax burdens on local homeowners. Second, strengthening public safety through a holistic approach that pairs fully resourced first responders with proactive community crisis intervention teams. Third, investing in quality, accessible infrastructure, parks, and roads to maintain vibrant, connected neighborhoods across Ward 3 while exercising strict fiscal accountability.
Drawing on my sociology background, work with Tribal Communities, and service on the Moorhead Human Rights Commission, I ensure decisions are made with residents, not to them. I will host accessible neighborhood town halls, actively seek input from youth, working families, and seniors, and use direct community feedback to guide city policy. By removing barriers to participation, I will ensure all voices across Ward 3 have a seat at the table and are valued in moving Moorhead forward.
I will advocate for open-door governance, clear municipal reporting, and expanded public access to city data. I support holding regular, accessible listening sessions before major budget decisions, ensuring residents clearly see where their tax dollars go. By applying a data-driven sociological approach to policy evaluation and rigorously tracking project outcomes, I will ensure city initiatives deliver measurable benefits, meet community goals, and remain fully accountable to Moorhead taxpayers
I love Moorhead. Karla and I, raised our three sons here and built our business here. Watching the city council grow divided, I felt a strong pull to step up and serve the community that has done so much for us. Sometimes a fresh voice, new perspectives, and different community connections can deliver breakthrough progress. I have a lot of respect for anyone willing to serve the public. Sometimes a long tenure in office has a way of narrowing the circle of voices that get heard. I will bring a fresh voice to the table, as a long-time resident, active member of the community, strong supporter of Moorhead schools, business owner, and a family man. I'm running on accountability, business sense, common sense, integrity, and a voice for all.
Economic & Business Development. Growing our commercial tax base to ease burden on homeowners & fund infrastructure. Utilize existing incentives and seek more for prospective businesses. Rounding out the downtown revitalization. Accountable Leadership & Fiscal Responsibility. Bringing transparency, professionalism and integrity to the council. Serving Moorhead with heart. I am approachable and willing to listen. I'll champion public safety, strong schools, and a walkable and accessible downtown.
I will make myself accessible and visible in the public by attending community events and making connections with as many people in Ward 3 as I can. We have many wonderful opportunities to collaborate with local cultural leaders, faith leaders and neighborhood associations to ensure all constituents have a voice.
I grew up on a farm and was taught hard work, adaptability and stewardship. You plan for the long term while adjusting to whatever gets thrown at you. As a small business owner, I must manage budgets, customer service and build lasting relationships. Earning people's trust and being accountable is the foundation of running a successful business. That is what I will bring to city council. I have a lot to learn but fresh eyes, simpler breakdowns, and being honest is a great start.
I am a dedicated advocate for Moorhead's people, small businesses, and future. With eight years on the Moorhead Economic Development Authority, experience chairing the West Central Initiative Economic Development District, and my current role on the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation executive committee, I know how to work collaboratively with local and regional partners to drive growth. I partnered with New American and Indigenous organizations to launch the Moorhead Global Market. I stand up for my constituents. As chair of the MATBUS Coordinating Committee, I successfully averted a proposed $2 million cut by the City of Fargo—protecting vital transportation routes that our community relies on every day.
Community Engagement: Moorhead prospers when elected officials value your voice and build paths to weigh in on decisions.
Development: Moorhead is transforming but to thrive, we need more businesses to invest in Moorhead. I will continue to seek ways to support our local businesses and recruit new ones.
Safety & Stability: Growth requires investing in a 3rd fire station and essential fire staffing. I will fight for affordable housing and manage tax dollars with fiscal discipline.
For eight years, I’ve brought city hall directly to Moorhead residents. From door-knocking every home in my ward to hosting "Conversations with Councilmembers" community chats, I meet residents on their own terms. As a fierce advocate for diverse voices, I believe we do better when we listen and learn from all constituents. I’ve consistently fought to make city government more accessible and am pushing for city boards and commissions that truly reflect the diverse population of Moorhead.
My leadership philosophy centers on a servant model that prioritizes community empowerment. Robust citizen engagement ensures public accountability and transparency through active, year-round oversight and direct feedback. I am committed to removing barriers to participation by collaborating with city staff and council to review our meeting formats and communication channels, ensuring these are welcoming and accessible to all residents.
