Willernie City Mayor

The mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. They also can preside at council meetings and appoint city workers. A mayor usually has a role in proposing a city budget which influences services provided to residents and can veto ordinances proposed by the city council.Voting in local elections is important - learn more here: Why Vote for Mayor

I’ve served on the Willernie City Council since 2020 and understand how our small city operates. When the mayoral seat opened, I was asked to step up; after careful thought, I agreed. I’m not chasing a title — I’m a neighbor who already gives my time and energy to this community and takes the work seriously.

My focus has been consistent: protect taxpayers’ dollars, apply the rules evenly, and keep Willernie running smoothly without drama. My wife grew up here, as did her parents and grandparents, and our kids are growing up here too. We’re rooted in this local community. I believe the best mayor has the temperament to work with others, the patience to listen, and the humility to treat the job as a responsibility, not a platform.
1. Protect taxpayers through careful spending and continued control of levy increases.

2. Apply city rules fairly and consistently — no favorites.

3. Address aging infrastructure honestly and with clear communication so residents are never surprised.

These priorities matter because Willernie works best when it stays steady, fair, and well-managed for the people who actually live here. My goal is a peaceful, well-run community that puts residents first.
Keep decisions and spending clear and easy to understand. Continue posting updated information on the city website so residents can quickly find what they need. Keep the quarterly Willernie Update going to every home. Hold more public interaction opportunities during the year.

In a city our size, accountability means being reachable. Residents should feel comfortable calling or emailing, or joining us at City Hall. I will treat every decision as if my neighbors are watching, because they are.
In Willernie we have a real advantage: we still know our neighbors. Residents can call or email the mayor and council members directly, or simply stop by City Hall. I will keep that open-door approach and look for more public comment opportunities during the year, not just at monthly meetings. Clear communication and a genuine willingness to listen matter more than complicated government processes in a city of our size.
Public safety starts with respect for our neighbors. It is followed by support for our shared rules and the officers who enforce them. In a small community like Willernie, we look out for one another. I will continue to back practical, professional law enforcement and clear expectations that everyone — residents and visitors alike — follows the same rules.

A safe, orderly Willernie is one of the most basic things we owe each other, and I will treat it as a top responsibility.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
