I am a retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer with 23 years of experience working with people in a wide range of situations. In that role I also served as a Firearms and Use of Force Instructor. I hold a B.S. in Secondary Education with a History emphasis and coaching certification from Bemidji State University. I have owned and operated my beef cattle farm for 31 years and have run a home-based accounting business for 22 years. My combined work and life experience—handling both emergency and everyday situations—equips me to negotiate effectively, practice sound fiscal oversight, and strongly represent the taxpayers and students of Minnesota School District 363.
• Finding practical ways to make our tax dollars go further through careful budgeting and good management. • Exploring partnerships with neighboring districts to share or combine programs where it benefits students and taxpayers. • Working to retain more of our local students so fewer leave the district through permanent open enrollment.
These problems are made harder by unfunded state mandates and a declining local population and tax base. If elected, I would push for careful spending, seek efficiencies, and focus instruction more heavily on the fundamentals: reading, communication skills, arithmetic, trade skills, and life skills. I also believe strong parent involvement in teaching and guiding their children is essential for student success, and I would support efforts that encourage and strengthen that partnership.
This question is too broad to answer with specific solutions. If elected, my responsibility is to oversee the management and education of all students in ISD 363. Issues that arise will need to be addressed on a case-by-case basis. My commitment is to treat every student and family fairly in accordance with the law and the policies of the district.
Teachers and parents both play critical roles in educating children and should work together to build strong foundations in the basics and critical thinking skills. As a board member, I will promote clear and open communication among teachers, parents, and the board so their insights on student behavior, academic expectations, and district needs meaningfully inform our decision-making.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.
