I feel I am the best candidate to be elected to the School Board. I have a 10 plus year history of being in our community working with our kids, their families, our teachers, and all of our staff. I have built strong relationships with families, and helped build a stronger bridge to the school for better communication and advocacy. I want to create and be apart of better policies for better communication, transparency, and doing what best for each child to succeed in our district.
My main priorities are building a stronger relationship between families and the district. So each family is heard and feels heard. There is a lot is disconnect right now between our city as a whole, our district, and most importantly our families. We have a growing truancy problem with our middle school students. I want to be apart of better helping families find solutions o how we can help them. Our kids need to be in school. Lastly, I want to work on having more supports for our teachers.
I have a hard time with this. I feel. Crookston schools and Crookston as a whole keep losing things and not adding in return to better serve our students and families. I would look at it as what can we save and what can we protect. I believe we need the bodies and the help in our schools, we can’t afford to lose good staff. I would look at unnecessary costs in our district. I would look to have a big team meeting and be as transparent as we can be and where our thoughts are and seek others.
Working within Social Services as a Family Based Worker, I work with families everyday who live in poverty, who feel as a minority they are targeted in our district, feel unheard and uncared for. We need to look within as a district and fix ourselves and our outlook. Why do our families feel this way and what can we do? Our district is made up of 39% minorities. We can start by putting out a survey to our families , find out what we arw doing to make families not feel welcome, and fix it.
My plan would be to be in the school a few times a month and checking in with teachers, and finding out how we can better support them. We need to. Better support our front line workers. Checking with our Aides and our Paras. What can we do better. More family involvement and engagement. I would love to have a monthly less formal meeting with families. Each month 3 board members sit with the public and just listen. Where parents have more time to talk, where they can feel heard.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
