I am a graduate and lifelong resident of the Little Falls Community Schools District who has children that attend LFCS. I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in education and currently work as an educator at neighboring school district, ISD 116-Pillager. I have been a two-time teacher of the year nominee and a Sourcewell Teacher of Excellence Award winner. My current teaching assignments include middle school social studies and robotics. I have served the youth in other capacities as the current Little Falls Youth Hockey Association Vice President, current Randall Baseball Board member, former cohead of Randall JVL baseball, former Little Falls Travel baseball coach, and former FAB youth football coach.
If elected, first I will work to find out why district residents are choosing to enroll their children in neighboring school districts and not staying with Little Falls. Second, help restore trust between the district residents and school board by making sure their voice is a valuable resource in the decision making process. Third, make careful consideration of all big decisions and lasting effects they make on the district and community as a whole.
When evaluating budget cuts, the school district should focus on what disrupts students and their family the least amount. When big changes are made, and it disrupts what is best for families, it makes them reevaluate their children’s education. If they decide to leave the district, the revenue brought from that student is gone forever. The Little Falls School District has struggled with this concept the last few years!
Any racial and economic disparities can be addressed by providing the best possible education for every student. This includes having high standards in math and literacy and providing extra support to students who need it. We should focus on what works and not what doesn’t, while strengthening parent involvement because parents are valued members of their children’s education.
Families of students and teachers should be the most valued groups in the decision-making process, not just hand-selected members of the community. In this day and age, conducting surveys, polling, and conferring with others has never been easier. The school district needs to do a lot more of this to get a solid foundation on which, when, and how to make critical decisions.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
