Experience matters. • I have served on the City Council for four years, chaired the MH Planning Commission, and co-chaired MH’s Airport Relations Commission. I understand how to get things done at city hall. • A 46-year resident, I understand our City’s issues and the special character of Mendota Heights. I am known, accessible, and trusted in the community. I show up, listen, and work with residents to ensure a safe and vibrant community. • As a retired VP for a national financial servicer with an MBA, I am comfortable working with financial data, budgets, negotiations, strategic planning, and community building. A fiscal conservative, when spending Mendota Heights’ funds, I weigh the cost burden of each expenditure vs. the benefit.
Safety and Security: • Ensure police and firefighters have the tools to deliver top-tier community policing and fire-fighting responses • Provide reliable cellphone coverage

Fiscal Responsibility: • A balanced budget linked with preservation of our low taxes and AAA bond rating • Respect for our residents’ financial limitations • Evaluation of costs associated with updating our Municipal Campus

Development and Community Building: • Lifecycle housing options • Maintenance of wetlands, parks,
I go where people are gathering. Events I have attended this year include a playground reopening, mahjong, Touch-a-Truck, Winter Fest, Scott Patrick memorial and 5K, and 10 Night to Unite events. I have also: • Visited Wentworth Park to talk with parents and children about a cell phone tower in the park • Talked with residents at Coffee With Council • Met with planning applicants at their homes • Chatted with gardeners and trail users I show up! I hear ideas, listen to understand, and learn.
Public engagement is critical to making sound decisions. I support • Open meetings with advanced notice of topic, date, location and time, in which residents can attend, comment, watch live on television or stream • Easy access to information, including meeting minutes and session recordings. • The purchase of microphones so work sessions in our Council Chamber can be recorded • Prompt responses to residents’ inquiries

I bring more than 40 years of engineering experience solving complex problems, evaluating alternatives, working within budgets, and bringing people with different perspectives together. I don't believe good decisions begin with a predetermined solution. They begin by clearly defining the problem, asking what we really need, considering alternatives, and understanding both the immediate and long-term costs. I will listen to residents, ask questions, and make thoughtful decisions based on the facts and the best interests of Mendota Heights.

My priorities will be services, public safety and the budget. The primary role of local government is to provide essential services, protect public safety, and manage the City's budget responsibly. That means maintaining roads and infrastructure, supporting police and fire services, and making careful decisions about how taxpayer dollars are spent. The city should focus first on the services residents need, keep spending within reasonable limits, and be clear with residents about costs.
I will listen first. Good decisions begin by hearing from residents with different experiences and points of view. I will be accessible, respectful, and willing to meet people where they are at meetings, community events, or through direct conversation. My responsibility will be to consider the interests of the entire community and make decisions based on what best serves Mendota Heights as a whole.
Residents should understand not only what the City decides, but how it arrived at that decision. I don't believe we should begin with a solution and then work backward to justify it. We should first define the need, consider reasonable alternatives, understand the costs and long-term impacts, and listen to residents before major decisions are made. I will ask questions, explain my reasoning, and support open access to the information residents need to hold their City government accountable.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
