Scott County Commissioner District 2

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. Learn more about the day in the life of a county commissioner in this video from the Association of Minnesota Counties.

My priorities are: 1) Protect Scott County’s rural character through responsible growth that preserves what residents value and avoids unfair burdens on homeowners. 2) Strengthen public safety and dependable county services by supporting prepared responders, reliable emergency communications, safe roads and secure infrastructure. 3) Improve fiscal responsibility and transparency through disciplined budgets, clear levy explanations, long-term planning and public reporting. I will work with residents and County staff, listen to concerns and explain decisions. Scott County is still a place where people wave, and I’d love to help keep it that way!
I believe election security and voting access go together. I believe in our County election volunteers who have worked so hard over the years. I support paper ballots, public accuracy testing, careful ballot custody, accurate voter records and transparent reviews, plus accessible polling places, clear information and lawful early and absentee voting. I will work with County staff to protect eligible voters' access and ensure ballots are handled and counted accurately.
In my 30 years of public safety, I have worked with many people facing mental-health challenges. Timely help, coordinated care and easier access to services are key challenges. I will work with residents, County staff and community partners to strengthen crisis response, connect people with help earlier and address cost and transportation barriers. My community-paramedic experience reinforces the value of early support and accountable use of taxpayer dollars.
I will work with residents and County staff to define public needs, protect essential services and measure results. Competitive purchasing, shared services where practical and long-term maintenance planning can help control costs. I support secure online options alongside in-person help to make services easier to use. Clear budgets and regular reporting will help residents see what services cost and what their tax dollars accomplish.
Immigration enforcement is primarily a federal responsibility. The county board has a role in budgets and reviewing proposed enforcement agreements, with legal guidance and public input. I support public safety, due process and treating people with dignity. I believe our immigration system needs to be fixed so workers have a clear, lawful path to follow. I will work within the board’s authority while urging federal leaders to make that process understandable and workable.
I will stay accessible through community events, local conversations, email and my website. My data-center survey is one way I am already listening to residents. I want to hear what people love about Scott County and what they would like to change, including views different from my own. I will work with residents and County staff, follow up on concerns, explain decisions in plain language and report back on what we are doing together.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
