Chaska City Mayor

The mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. They also can preside at council meetings and appoint city workers. I bring seven years of experience serving Chaska in elected office, including two years as Mayor and five years on the City Council. My service has given me firsthand knowledge of city operations, planning, development, financial stewardship, and the needs of our community. I also bring 16 years of experience as a small business owner, along with extensive community and regional volunteer service. I approach leadership by listening, learning, engaging with residents, and working collaboratively to make informed decisions. I’m committed to thoughtful planning, responsible growth, strong city services, and maintaining the qualities that make Chaska a great place to live, work, and call home.
My top three priorities are planning thoughtfully for Chaska’s future, building a thriving local economy, and addressing the future of our Community Center. As we transition to a more fully developed community, we need to protect affordability, maintain essential infrastructure, and support a range of housing options. A strong economy supports jobs and opportunities, while thoughtful planning for the Community Center will help preserve an essential asset for future generations.
Transparency starts with making information accessible and giving residents meaningful opportunities to participate. Our Community Developments webpage provides information about proposed projects, while neighborhood meetings allow residents to ask questions and understand potential impacts. I will continue communicating clearly about city decisions, finances, projects, and challenges. Ethical leadership means following policies, being accountable, and leading by example.
I believe residents should have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their community. I will remain accessible and present, creating opportunities to listen through neighborhood meetings, community events, task forces, commissions, and listening sessions. I also believe in closing the loop by sharing how feedback was considered and explaining decisions. Meaningful engagement means listening, responding, and keeping residents connected throughout the process.
Public safety starts with trust between our community and law enforcement. I will continue supporting opportunities that bring residents and officers together, including Coffee with a Cop, Citizen and Youth Academies, neighborhood watch programs, and community conversations about safety. Our new Public Safety Campus strengthens our ability to serve residents, while training in crisis intervention, cultural competency, and de-escalation helps officers respond effectively.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
