I started on the Morris City Council in January of 2007. I have worked on different committees such as the West Central Initiative, Park Board, Morris Tourism, the Planning Commission and the Law Enforcement Contract with the county. I retired from the Morris Fire Department after 24 years of service. I held many different positions. I am a member of the Morris Eagles and Sons of the American Legion. I have lived in Morris since 1969 and am proud to call it my home. I am deeply committed to helping our community continue to grow and thrive. I hope to continue contributing to making Morris an even better place to live, work, raise a family, and build a bright future for generations to come.
Work on expanding the area in the Industrial Park, keeping the business district full, expanding housing opportunities for residents, and updating our parks. Communicating and working with the college community and student population to better integrate them into the Morris community. Having community opportunities to get the UMM students involved in the community and in hope that they decide to make Morris their home.
I like to be involved in complaints and make things happen and also be involved in the decision-making process. I truly enjoy working with people and am a good listener. I try to work with everyone to get them what they need. I have worked Sales for many years and that experience has shaped my interactions with people. I see many of the same people in all aspects of living in this community from employment, retail, medical services and various UMM dealings. Mostly treating everyone with respect.
Transparency starts with treating residents as partners in this community who have ideas for the area. Being willing to listen to the good and the bad. Just having an open communication approach and doing everything I can so residents understand what is going on.

A retired Network and Cyber Security Engineer at universities, I moved to Morris 7 years ago with my wife, Anita Stoker nee Monroe, who was born, raised and lived most of her life in and around Morris. We have deep community connections through church and activity in party politics, though in opposite parties. We attend local, regional and statewide events together building connections with like-minded folks from both sides of the aisle. Through the years I have followed local politics. For the past 2 years I have attended most council and county board meetings, studied agenda packets, and spoken out for fairness and sanity. The time has come for my voice to be heard on the council. The incumbent is worthy, yet a vacancy remains.
Our infrastructure must be consistently and properly maintained and better funded. Assessments are not cutting it. We need greater fiscal responsibility and transparency. Limited resources are spent with wild abandon and too little accountability. The RAPL program showed me Morris has no plan. Immediate needs and wishes of powerful outside forces determine too many decisions. We need not just a new Comprehensive Strategic Plan, but also radically different strategy throughout government.
Too many voices have been silenced for too long. Open, informal discussions between citizens, businesses and leaders must be facilitated to let our city government better represent all its people. Participation in meetings needs to be actively encouraged and facilitated. Specifically, agenda documents must be accessible to the community, by providing understandable summaries. Members of the public must be given every opportunity to speak and interact with the council. Flexibility is a must.
Work sessions are open public meetings needing detailed agendas, packets, and recordings. The public have access to EVERY document presented to the council at EVERY open meeting. Why are we left wondering what the council is looking at? Variation and flexibility in meeting times would be good. Must the council always meet during dinner? Detailed meeting times and agendas need to be posted physically and online for ALL council and ALL commission meetings. Justify appropriations every time.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
