The county's key policymakers who ensure that citizen concerns are met, federal and state requirements are fulfilled, and county operations run smoothly. If elected, what will your top three priorities be and why? (750 characters)

How would you balance safe and secure elections with voting access? (500 characters)

What do you see as the biggest challenges to mental health and social services in your county, and how would you address them? (500 characters)

What approach would you take to delivering county services while managing the cost of delivering those services? (500 characters)

What role, if any, do you think the county board plays in immigration enforcement? (500 characters)

How do you plan to interact with constituents to best understand the needs of the county? (500 characters)

My top three priorities are housing and blight, childcare, and tourism marketing. I strongly advocated for capturing the additional Enbridge tax capacity created by the Line 3 improvement in 2022, providing ongoing funding for economic development. The County has used these resources to support housing, an industrial park, Heartland Heights, and Pinecrest Apartments, which is now fully occupied and includes childcare facilities. These investments will help attract and retain a quality workforce. Tourism also needs attention. Our leisure and hospitality sector is growing at less than half the rate of comparable communities. We need better marketing, while also addressing blight and expanding multi-use community spaces.
The Minnesota State Legislator sets voting law in the state. We follow the Secretary of State guidelines and have always had great voter turnout and election safety in Hubbard County. I would expect this to continue.
One of the toughest challenges facing Minnesota counties is the growing pressure from state and federal cost shifts. Mandated programs are increasingly being passed to counties without full funding, placing greater pressure on local taxpayers. We need knowledgeable commissioners willing to advocate in St. Paul for regulatory and budget changes while finding efficiencies and maintaining essential services at a reasonable cost.
Recent budget growth has been driven largely by factors outside the County Board’s control, including increased public safety costs, new state health and mental health requirements, and rising pay. Staffing increases were necessary to meet these demands. While the county levy increased, tax capacity grew from about $58 million to $75 million. Because the tax base grew faster than the levy, the county tax rate actually declined. Cost control and growth in tax capacity lessen the tax burden.
Very little. I do believe it is important for all law enforcement agencies to cooperate and work together. This is the most effective and safest way to protect the public. Local police should respect and work with federal authorities.
My time on the County Board has focused on listening to residents, asking tough questions, and balancing growth with responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources. I am approachable and committed to addressing constituent concerns. Hubbard County is a special place to live, work, raise a family, and enjoy the outdoors. I am seeking re-election to continue protecting our quality of life while keeping county government accountable to taxpayers.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
