I'm the best candidate for Wright County Sheriff because of my leadership and integrity. Over 25 years I've worked nearly every role in this agency, rising to Chief Deputy since 2019, overseeing a $52M budget and 310+ employees serving 157,000 residents. I helped launch our co-responder program and deputy wellness program, and served as first liaison to Adult Drug Court, balancing enforcement with recovery. I'm endorsed by Sheriff Sean Deringer, County Attorney Brian Lutes, and Sheriffs Steve Soyka and Brad Wise, partners who've seen my work firsthand. My wife Christine and I have called Annandale home since 2001, raising our family here. This is the county I've built my life in. Experienced leadership with integrity, ready to lead day one.
My top three priorities: 1) Staffing — keep pay, training, and equipment competitive so we retain deputies and keep pace with Wright County's growth. 2) Mental health — grow our co-responder program, launch a mental health court, and invest in deputy wellness, because law enforcement can't solve every crisis alone. 3) Drug enforcement — pair tough enforcement with drug court and our new Overdose Fatality Review Committee to cut overdose deaths.
We currently provide daily jail roster updates, weekly patrol activity reports across our website, newspaper, Facebook, and radio, and annual reports to our contract cities. As Sheriff, I'd build on that foundation with an internal social media team to strengthen our public engagement, and by increasing our presence at city council and township board meetings so residents hear directly from us, not just read about us. Transparency should be proactive, not just available on request.
My leadership style is hands-on and earned, not assigned. I've led from inside every rank, patrol to Chief Deputy, so I lead by understanding the job, not just directing it. I build programs through partnership and by listening to the needs our community. I also invest in developing our next leaders and listening to those I serve with. That's the steady, earned leadership I would bring to Wright County on day one.
Gun violence prevention starts with enforcing the laws already on the books, not adding new restrictions on law-abiding owners. That means proactive patrols, strict enforcement against those who violate current gun laws, and taking every threat of violence seriously with thorough investigation. We also promote responsible ownership, including offering free gun locks at our front counter. Safe communities come from strong enforcement paired with responsible gun ownership and education.
Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility; local law enforcement has no authority to enforce immigration law. Our job is public safety for everyone who lives, works, or travels through Wright County. I support our federal partners and expect their agents to operate within constitutional requirements for stops, detentions, and arrests. As licensed Minnesota peace officers, our responsibility is to uphold and follow the laws of Minnesota, not to take on a federal enforcement role.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
