St. Louis County Soil and Water Supervisor District 2 (South)

SWCDs are local units of government that manage and direct natural resource management programs. Districts work in both urban and rural settings, with landowners and with other units of government, to carry out actions for the conservation of soil, water, and related natural resources. They are subject to state statutes and rules as a public body. Use the MN Secretary of State’s Candidate Filing page (https://candidates.sos.mn.gov/) to find specific candidate contact information.

After receiving a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, I spent 8 years as an Army Engineer Officer serving around the world. I have visited many areas, each with their unique environmental challenges, and have even been responsible for remedying or preserving many challenging environmental situations. This experience allows me to see the political, economic, social, and infrastructure impacts managing soil and water have, as well as what works. Currently serving in the role, I take every opportunity to talk to the community to hear concerns and communicate these grass roots stories to decision makers at all levels. I have experience advocating for environmental policy, funding sources, and partnering with many different agencies in order to efficiently protect Minnesota’s resources.
The South St. Louis Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) provides technical, educational, and financial resources to land occupiers, empowering individuals to implement practices and projects that preserve, protect, and enhance water quality and other natural resources. Land occupiers may reach out to the SWCD with questions over the phone or even request a staff member visit their property to help make a stewardship plan. I believe it is my responsibility to help individuals navigate these resources, so they can help protect and preserve their piece of our communities' natural resources.
It is my goal to continually find new ways to do more with less by teaming up with local, state, and federal agencies, legislatures, and stakeholders. This coordination maximizes the efficiency of resources, while effectively decreasing the burden on taxpayer’s dollars. A recent study regarding economic impacts of Minnesota conservation delivery discovered for every $1 spent towards conservation efforts resulted in $1.85 returned to our local economy.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
