1. Removing the middleman health insurance companies from Minnesota's Medicaid program. This would save taxpayer money, improve care, increase accountability, and reduce fraud. 2. Improving Minnesota's mental health system, especially for children. This includes holding insurance companies accountable, supporting our MH workforce, improving our crisis response systems, and making sure the right care is available quickly in a crisis. 3. Continuing my work to improve access to affordable health care, including dental care, throughout the state.
The biggest reasons inflation is skyrocketing are reckless tariffs and the reckless Trump war on Iran, and the state legislature can't do much about these. However, our state can cushion the blow for struggling Minnesotans by focusing on some everyday costs, such as housing, childcare, healthcare, and state taxes. Obscene levels of income inequality--where the ultra-wealthy few own most of our nation's wealth while many people can barely afford to live--must be challenged.
I am appalled by the Republican emphasis on "preserving our way of life," which I see as an appeal to movements and attitudes such as White Nationalism, Christian Nationalism, and others that turn Minnesotans against each other. We are stronger as a state, and nation, when we welcome and appreciate people from many backgrounds. I will continue to be mindful of the disparities that hold us back and seek ways to ensure that every Minnesotan has opportunities for a productive and good life.
I support the ERA. History has shown that our founding principle that "all [people] are created equal" does not become real for everyone without more explicit, updated statements in law. We are a stronger state when everyone's rights are protected.
Protect the Boundary Waters and other wild places against copper/sulfide mining. Moratorium on data centers. Ban local governments from using non-disclosure agreements for large construction projects. Move forward with renewable energy initiatives and reducing greenhouse gases.
Safety has a lot of components. We need commonsense gun laws, an accessible, affordable, and well functioning mental health system, programs to support the well-being of children and teens, and educational opportunities that allow everyone to reach their full potential. We need well trained police and investigators who follow the Constitution and the rule of law, and laws that hold offenders accountable and support victims but still recognize that humans can grow and change.
The Supreme Court's Citizens United decision has allowed a deluge of money in elections. This allows billionaires to effectively buy government that works for them, not the rest of us. Then they can have fewer regulations and pay even less in taxes. This is undermining our country and it has to stop. Although Federal law restricts Minnesota's ability to truly rein in the big money, it is critical to do whatever we can to at least make sure folks know where the money is coming from.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
