I am running for Minnesota State house because I have seen, and experienced firsthand how things just don’t work for working families. We need to create more childcare and more housing to meet the urgent demand. We also must lower the costs of groceries, health insurance, and property taxes by taking on the largest corporations that have been taking advantage of rural communities. They must pay their fair share. We do this by fighting hard together, and not stopping at our end of the party aisle to get real tangible results for Winonans.
Housing and childcare are the base of economic development. We can reduce and stabilize the cost of housing by making it easier for builders to build more units, increasing supply. We must also increase the amount of childcare by targeted financial support for childcare providers and families, while also making it easier for new childcares to open in Winona County.
The racial disparities we see in employment, wealth, housing, and incarceration are real, and they deserve thoughtful, practical solutions. In Winona County, I believe one of the most important steps is making our community a place where more people can afford to live. Developing more housing and creating more childcare would make it easier for families from diverse backgrounds to put down roots, build wealth, and become part of our community.
I support an Equal Rights Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution because I believe that equality under the law should not depend on who is in power, which party controls the legislature, or how the political winds are blowing in any given year. Constitutional protections exist precisely because some rights are too fundamental to leave to the whims of legislative majorities.
I have worked on initiatives that would provide and encourage free at home testing for anyone with a private well. As a farmer, I have seen firsthand the shortcomings of our current soil health programs. I would want to lead a program to modernize and make these programs more accessible to all farmers.
I believe a license-to-purchase law would be most effective at reducing gun deaths in Minnesota. Similar laws already exist in 11 other states, including California and Nebraska, and have been shown to reduce mass shootings, suicides, and domestic violence involving firearms. When it comes to community safety, we have to be effective. Too much is at stake to do nothing.
Corporate money in elections is at the core of what is wrong with politics today. I support the movement to revoke political spending from corporate charters in Minnesota. Essentially, this would make it illegal for corporations to donate to political candidates or action committees.

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and North Dakota crafted the questions sent to the candidates in the Spring of 2024. They reached out to candidates based on contact information in their public candidate filings. Candidates with email addresses were invited and reminded with emails. Candidates with only mailing addresses were sent a letter. Candidates with phone numbers received a phone call as well.

Candidate responses are published as they responded and have not been edited, except when responses were longer than the given character limit. In those cases, the responses are truncated.
