St. Ann Proposition U

Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the City of St. Ann be authorized to impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action?Summary: The measure would impose a new tax on purchases made from businesses outside Missouri, mostly online or catalog vendors, and not taxed in the other state. The tax would be collected by the vendor. Proponents say the new use tax would generate more than $100,000 a year in revenue for the city and would allow local businesses to compete more fairly with out-of-state businesses. The proposed tax would be the same amount as the city government s sales tax, currently 1.75 cents.
