Strain-Japan School District Proposition J
Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall Strain-Japan R-XVI School District issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $610,000 for the purpose of constructing, improving, repairing, renovating, furnishing, and equipping school facilities, including relocating and constructing a kitchen and replacing existing bleachers with ADA compliant bleachers? If this question is approved, the District’s debt service property tax levy is estimated to increase from $0.0000 to $0.2350 per $100 dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.Summary: This proposition would enable the district to borrow $610,000 to relocate its kitchen and, if funds permit, replace aging bleachers with new ones complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The bond issue would require a property tax increase of about 23.5 cents per $100 assessed valuation. The owner of a $100,000 home would pay an additional $45 per year in taxes. When the district s one building was expanded 20 years ago, the kitchen space was roughed out but not completed. Proponents say increased enrollment and aging kitchen facilities require replacement. They also say bleachers should be replaced if funds allow.
