Rock Community Fire Protection District Proposition Safety

Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the Rock Community Fire Protection District issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $20,000,000 for the purposes of acquiring, constructing, extending, renovating, improving, replacing, furnishing and equipping fire stations and related facilities; acquiring and equipping life-saving and firefighting vehicles; and acquiring emergency rescue, fire protection and firefighting apparatus and auxiliary equipment to carry out the objectives and purposes of the District, improve emergency services and reduce response times to 911 emergency calls?Summary: This measure would authorize the district to borrow $20 million to fund capital improvement projects and replace outdated equipment. The bond issue would not require a property tax increase but the district s bond debt would extend to 2051. The district would issue bonds in phases, beginning with $10 million to $12 million this year, with added revenue used to replace a 1998 fire engine and 2006 ladder truck, upgrade technology and build and equip a community education and safety training center located in the center of the district. Additional bonds up to a total of $20 million would pay for heart monitors and other safety equipment. Proponents say the district is the most populous in the county and projects that call volumes will continue to increase in the future.
