Byrnes Mill Proposition P
Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the City of Byrnes Mill impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action?Summary: The proposed city use tax would be the same amount as the city government sales tax (currently 2.5%) and applied to purchases from businesses, mostly online or catalog vendors, outside the state and not taxed in the other state. The tax would be collected by the vendor. Proponents say it would generate over $20,000 a year in revenue for the city and allow local businesses to compete more fairly with out-of-state businesses.
