Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the Boles Fire Protection District impose a sales tax of one percent for the purpose of providing revenues for the operation of the Boles Fire Protection District, and shall the total property tax levy on properties in the district be reduced annually by an amount which reduces property tax revenue by an amount equal to fifty percent of the previous years' revenue collected from this sales tax?Summary: If passed, the sales tax on retail purchases in the district would increase by 1 cent. The district's property tax rate would decrease by an amount that would produce revenue equal to half of the amount generated by the sales tax hike. The increase in revenue would enable the district to meet increasing costs and replace aging equipment. Supporters say the measure would provide a more equitable way to share the costs of providing service while providing property tax relief. Opponents say sales taxes are regressive and the region's sales taxes are too high.
