Franklin County Proposition T

Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the County of Franklin, Consistent with RSMo 137.1120, implement a tax credit program whereby the effective real property tax liability on an eligible taxpayer's homestead shall not be increased above the liability incurred during the initial credit year, pursuant to the language of the enabling statute?Summary: This measure would freeze the property tax on a homeowner's primary residence at the amount in effect in the 2024 tax year. Taxes could increase only if voters approve a property tax rate increase or if the home's value increased due to new construction or renovations. Supporters say the measure would protect homeowners from reassessment-related tax increases and inflation. Opponents say public schools, fire districts, the county library system and other governments funded by property taxes would lose necessary funds. State law says a homeowner could not qualify for both this tax restriction and a separate property tax freeze enacted previously for senior citizens.
